William Hendrick QuellhorstJanuary 31, 1941 ~ January 25, 2018 (age 76)
On January 25th, 2018, William Hendrick Quellhorst of Arroyo City joined his parents, Wilhelmina and Gerrit H. Quellhorst, in God's presence. He was father to William Joseph Quellhorst, Harold Joseph Bernard, Maurice Joseph Bernard and Gerardo Hendrick Quellhorst. Born in the small town of Warmond Zuid Holland in the Netherlands, William, or "Mr. Q" as he was affectionately called, immigrated from Holland to Wichita Falls, TX with his parents and siblings when he was 15 years old. He was the oldest of eight children and patriarch of his own clan with 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
William served his country in the National Guard from 1960 thru 1964. He served McCrory's Store for over 30 years. Working his way from box boy to regional manager, "Mr. Q" was a real example of hard work, dedication, persistence and drive. His passion outside of work was the water, specifically boating. Enjoying a warm day on the water while towing skiers or knee-boarders was William's happy place, and we pray he is out on the water in Heaven.
Condolences are expressed to William's sons and to his brothers, John Quellhorst, Michael Quellhorst, and Gerrit Quellhorst; sisters, Sophia Tribble, Helena Cox, Wilhelmina "Willa" Frizzell, and Johanna "Anneka" Gibson: grandchildren, Anneka Quellhorst, Leslie Frakes, Damian Bernard, Kristian Rodriguez, Valeria Bernard, Kimberly Rodriguez, Juan Pablo Landin, Paola Landin, Jose Angel Bernard, Katy Lynn Quellhorst, Gabriel Bernard, Teresa Marie Bernard, William Nathan Quellhorst, Thomas Bernard; and great-grandson, Forrest Frakes.
Services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen TX 78550. A memorial visitation will be held Monday, January 29, 2018 from 5-8pm.
